ALTERNATIVE PRESS FAIR! Sunday 1st February 2009
November 20, 2008 by jimigherkinHo ho ho! It’s a christmas comic!
November 9, 2008 by jimigherkinHandmade and bound was a massive success yesterday. With the comics stall, exhibiting 15 artists’ excellent creations we had a great time and made a few quid to help with those darned christmas presents! Which brings me onto the subject of a christmas comix zine that i’m putting together just in time for christmas it’ll be called “wake up to christmas” and will cover all aspects of the festive period from gripes and grumbles to joyeux noel in the form of comic strips, articles, stories or whatever you fancy. the deadline is the weekend of 15th november, so email me at jimigherkin(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk if you’re interested.
Also, keep an eye out here as we are planning another event for february! Yay! See ya,
HANDMADE & BOUND BOOK ART, ZINES AND COMIX EVENT
October 25, 2008 by jimigherkinHere’s the write up from their website:
Handmade & Bound is an independent fair with affordable,
handmade artists’ books, comics and zines. It was conceived partly in
response to the fact that there will be no London Artists book fair at
the ICA in 2008, and further in response to the changes to the nature
of that event when it returns in 2009 at the Whitechapel Art Gallery.
So we decided to make our own.
The spaces are extremely limited, and the response has been
incredible already. So we are trying to find ways to maximise the usage
of the space.
The event we want to have will be based on handmade but affordable books and zines. We want to achieve a good balance between artists books and zines (in the DIY punk tradition).
Also, we’re gonna have a comics table and a zine table, so mosey on down and check it out!
see ya!
Al Maceachern produces comic jam, yeah!
September 9, 2008 by jimigherkinI received a lovely package the other day from comics genius Al Maceachern of the comics jam drawn by some of the artists at the comics and zine event. Check it out here or get in touch with Al for some printed copies amdrawing.co.uk.
Love all round yo, keep your eyes open for the next event…

Pictures!
July 21, 2008 by jimigherkinBig thanks to you all!
July 21, 2008 by jimigherkinWell what a great time we had! There was a steady stream of interested visitors, whether
they were friends of exhibitors, people who had seen a flyer or one of our links or listings
and those that just happened by. We had zine readings which added a moment of intimacy to
the proceedings and gave us something to think about. There was a variety of comics and
zines there and the time flew by as we created a comic strip together and a collaborative
drawing(so keep an eye out for those).
If you missed it, then not to worry, we’ve already got something in the pipeline for later
in the year so watch this space!
Thanks to everyone who came down to show off their stuff on the day (see the updated link on
the right) and to everyone who helped in putting it together, whether it was moral support
or physical labour(or both)! Big shout outs to Peter Lally for being optimistic energetic
and a general source of supportive vibes, plus his time and effort in flyering and
promoting, Sean Duffield for supportive words and a mailing list as long as my arm! Al
Maceachern for making flyers and organising the comic strip, josceline fenton for putting
the word right out there and helping with the flyering, Alex Fitch for getting us on air and
editting the “y’knows..” out! John Anderson, Giovanni Spinella, Richard Hayes and the Comics
Creators Guild for their support which put my mind at rest and was really touching. Chloe
McCormack for her really personal reading and Chris for reading his article about student
life in Durham. Shabs, Zarina and Cella for flyering, giving up their time. Also to everone
who took flyers and told a few people about us including (but not exclusively) Gosh!,
Orbital and the Camden comics stall.
As well as everyone who came along and added to the
atmosphere, see you next time!

Flyering & drinks in London!
June 29, 2008 by jimigherkinWe need you to help make this event really special, so why not help promote it by doing a bit of flyering and comics and zine event related chit chat in london! The date is set for Saturday 12th July 2008, just one week before the event takes place! The idea is to meet up somewhere in London then for each of us to take an area and meet the wonderful public to tell them about our event, I’ll be making a list of comic and record shops, art galleries, cafes &c. That I think would be good places in each area, but of course any ideas would be gratefully accepted. So whether you’re in North, East, South, or West, get in touch and let us know what you can do.
Meeting @
The Plough (maps etc in the link on the right), 27 Museum Street, London at one o’clock in the afternoon.
If you can’t make it then you could print the flers below and distribute them til your heart’s content!
